First Time Coming to Plymouth, Minnesota – Did You Know?

Plymouth’s history goes back as far as 1400-1500 AD, with the original inhabitants being the Dakota, with their encampment at the north end of Medicine Lake. White settlers of Plymouth formed a militia and fought the Dakota at Fort Ridgely in the Dakota War of 1862. After the Civil War, Plymouth swelled to a population of 1,074, garnering $667 in annual taxes in 1880. Farming was the trade of most settlers.
